Teen Read Month – Maze Runner
By Rachel Reeves
With the release of The Maze Runner in cinemas worldwide, we are totally blown away by the easy transformation from page to screen, and we really cannot get enough of this amazing new movie! The special effects are breath-taking, the action scenes will make your heart race and you’ll be transported into the inescapable maze of horrors!
Thomas’s first memory is of waking in a metal cage, surrounded by faces he has never seen before, in a place he has never seen before. To make matters worse, he has no idea what his own name is. As the story unfolds we learn all about the Gladers, the group of boys living in the Glade, who welcome Thomas into their community and teach him all about life in the Glade. The ever present maze surrounding the Glade is only explored by Runners, only a select few are chosen to be runners as the maze is an ever changing, Griever infested death trap that closes its doors at sun-down.
When two runners are attacked and fail to make it out of the maze before sun-down Thomas disobeys all the rules of The Glade and dashes into the maze. The doors closing behind him he is forced to spend a terrifying night behind the never ending walls of the maze. Surviving a night in the maze is unheard of and the Gladers make Thomas a Runner after his impressive rescue.
Then Teresa arrives, the only girl to ever be sent to the glade, in her hand is a crumpled note reading “She is the last one EVER”.
Theresa and Thomas together are the key to the Gladers escape from the maze, and the terrible experiment they are part of. But enough of the spoilers, you should definitely read this series if post-apocalyptic, action packed dystopian society is your thing. And really why wouldn’t it be?
